Iowa CIS Program Information
The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDALS) has established a Cooperative Interstate Shipment (CIS) Agreement with the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service (USDA-FSIS). The CIS program allows participating state-inspected meat and poultry establishments to ship products across state lines.
To qualify for the CIS program, a meat processor must have fewer than 25 full-time employees and comply with all federal food safety, sanitation and facility regulations. Individual livestock producers can not apply to the CIS program but they can sell their meat and poultry products across state lines if they are processed at a CIS facility.
Establishments interested in applying or wishing to learn more can find the application form and an explanatory PowerPoint presentation below. Additional information on CIS can be found on the USDA-FSIS homepage. Please contact IDALS at 515-281-3338 or Kathryn.Polking@iowaagriculture.gov to learn more.
