Details of Northey Transition to USDA, Naig Swearing In Announced

DES MOINES – The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship today announced the details of the resignation and swearing in of Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey to USDA and the swearing in of Deputy Secretary Mike Naig as Iowa Secretary of Agriculture.

Northey today announced his intention to resign as Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Monday, March 5 at 1:30 p.m. His resignation letter will be transmitted to the Governor’s office; no event will take place.

Naig will be sworn in at a ceremony at the Iowa Supreme Court Chamber at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 5.  The swearing in is open to the media and public.

Then, Northey and Naig will host an open house reception in the Wallace Building Atrium at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, March 5.

Northey will then be sworn in as Under Secretary of Agriculture at USDA at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 6 as part of the Iowa Agriculture Leaders Dinner.  U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue is scheduled to swear in Northey at the dinner.  The dinner is hosted by the Department and is held at the Paul R. Knapp Animal Learning Center on the Iowa State Fairgrounds, 3000 E. Grand Ave., Des Moines.
