Farmers markets must be authorized by the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship before certified vendors can accept FMNP checks at the market. Market managers must complete a Market Assurance Statement to request market authorization.

Market authorization for market managers

Guide for completing the market authorization

To be authorized in the FMNP, markets must:

  • operate a minimum of two consecutive hours each week for a majority of the season, June 1 through October 31

  • have at least 3 certified vendors participate in the farmers market for the majority of weeks of the season

  • post the market hours and days of operation.

Market managers must submit the Farmers Market Assurance Statement by April 15 to be considered for FMNP authorization in order to be listed in the FMNP Directory of Authorized Locations.
